Dorothy (Dottie) Ashmore (Lanham) was born on Christmas Day, 1924—a fourth–generation citizen of Burdickville, Michigan. She grew up in Burdickville, married a man from Burdickville, and lived the rest of her life in and around Burdickville. She raised two children there, ran a business there, and continues to work to care for and preserve Burdickville’s Old Settlers Picnic Ground. Needless to say, Dottie knows and loves Burdickville.
During recent years Dottie has spent many hours preserving the history of Burdickville and surrounding areas. In 1997 she was named Leelanau County Woman of the Year, based on her years of community service.
During 2005—2008 she made her collection of family photographs available for copying, and spent many hours providing related information. Dottie Lanham: Images, Recollections, and Observations presents some of those photographs, accompanied by notes drawn mainly from her oral history interviews. It is supplemented by some materials from some of Dottie’s neighbors.
The current 43-page third edition sells for $16. If you buy direct from me, I’ll pay the sales tax. Profits will be used for historic preservation, research, and education relating to Burdickville and surrounding areas.
Produced in cooperation with Old Settlers Picnic Association.
Tom:
I can’t wait to see this beautiful book that you have written about my Grandmother. Thank you for honoring her in this way. She is a special lady.
We live just upstream (literally) from where Fred and Dottie Lanham built their home and pond (Lake Dootsie).
They were our first friends when we bought property on Bow Rd. They went out of their way to be neighborly, and offered us permission for Consumers Power to send electricity our way. We would love to have a couple copies of the book you have written with Dottie. Now if we can only arrange for the shipping!
Hello Tom,
thanks for Dottie Lanham’s comments. She is a dear, long time friend.
How much is her book?
